Organize for an Easier Life

Organize for an easier life
Howdy

I started helping others organize after moving 5 times in 6 years. Yes, that is right. A bit crazy, but I was going through a divorce and had a teenager son in tow. Looking for a reasonable place to live that made us both happy. Anyone who has or has had teenagers, knows how hard it is to get them to do what needs to be done. Needless to say you get pretty good at knowing what is important for everyone to pack first (the things you might not see for a few weeks) and things you pack last. (things you will need right away) And get rid of those things you really no longer need. (thus packing less each time.)

The trick is first to put like things with like things. Then ask yourself “do I need 5 vegetable peelers” or 6 same wooden spoons or 6 scissors, or 20 pens, etc. Give away the things you no longer need to friends, family, thrift stores, etc. Less to move if you do at this point.

Having so many of one item usually happens when you can’t find it and you go out and buy another. Once you decide to keep what you want, you need to give each item their specific place. This way you can find what you need when you want it. You won’t be searching through piles, boxes or drawers to get what you need and you will save money. In my case, there was a time when I put my 5 corkscrews together. My friend that was helping me at the time asked,“Do you need all these?” The answer was, yes. Living in Sonoma, Ca, wine country I needed 1 for the picnic basket, one for the cooler (two if you have two coolers) one for the car and one for the house) They just needed to go back to their respectful places.
Busy people, which we all seem to be these days, need to be able to find things easily and without stress.

Organization is the key to an Easier Life.
